Bell County Sheriff's Department is accepting applications for full time Jailers. Starting pay is $39,255.00/$18.80 per hour plus benefits of holiday pay, sick leave pay, retirement, and paid health/dental care insurance. See Benefits for more in depth information.


No experience is required, but must have the ability to communicate effectively, handle stressful situations and work rotating days to include holidays and weekends. Duties consist of the care and custody of inmates and the operation of the corrections environment. This agency has direct and indirect supervision of inmates. Jailers are licensed through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. The in depth state requirements can be found here.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED.

Applicants selected will be emailed with detailed instructions throughout the process.

Criminal background check is required. Applicants will go through phases to be considered for employment: background check, interview and Conditional Offer of Employment. The Conditional Offer of Employment is not a guarantee of employment but another testing phase for consideration of the job performances.

TCOLE Disqualifiers

Persons that have been convicted of an offense above the grade of Class B misdemeanor in the past ten years will not be considered for employment.

Convictions of Class A or Felony cannot be considered.

Any level Class Misdemeanor or Felony involving Family Violence will not be considered.

Applicants discharged from military service under conditions due to misconduct that prevents re-entry will not be considered for employment.
